Southern Migrant Hawker Still at Yarmouth.

A return visit to Bouldnor Forest,Yarmouth today discovered the male Southern Migrant Hawker patrolling the diminishing woodland pond. With the weather starting to cloud over at times, our male hawker began to slow down and hovering was the name of the game as he no doubt investigated me as I stood observing his movements. This was an opportunity to attempt a few flight shots and I was frankly amazed that some photos did this lovely dragonfly justice.

  1. They are stunners! I went to see the well known colony at Canvey Island a week ago though was unable to find Southern Emerald (though plenty of Scarce & a couple of Willow Emeralds),

Well done on a first for the IOW. Good to see this species turning up in more places!

    1. Good to hear from you Ch54 and thanks for leaving your comment. You may already know via SM perhaps that several SMH's have been seen on the Isle of Wight in the last couple of days.
Lestes barbarus can be elusive and here my last sighting was on the 20th June despite more visits to their site.Still, this seems to follow the trend since last year when they 'disappear' and hopefully return sometime in August/September to pair.Fingers crossed.
