Common Bluetail

Known in the UK as the Blue-tailed Damselfly,the title name might be more appropriate as it is perhaps the most common species in the UK and Europe.The Isle of Wight is no exception and  it can found at most locations.

The adult male is blue and black although male immatures have a greenish thorax.There are several colour forms in the female,ranging from orange-pink and violet forms of the immatures to male-type colouration in the female adult, together with olive-green,brown, and dull brown.In fact a very colourful species.
